"The pain of a child's death is immeasurable" (Unicef, 2012) is the preface to the latest World report on child injury prevention. Drowning is defined as the process of experiencing breathing difficulties through immersion or submersion in liquid (Van Beeck; Branche; Szpilman; Modell and Bierens, 2005). Its consequences can result in death, morbidity or no morbidity. It can happen in a variety of climates or geographical settings, such as the beach, river, swimming pools, floods or the home, and in a variety of activities, be they recreational, home life, work or sport (Stallman, Moran, Quan, & Langendorfer, 2017). The World Report on Drowning Prevention reports that risk factors include poverty, childhood, adolescence, easy access to water, lack of adequate supervision, lack of water skills and lack of awareness of water safety and safe behaviours (World Health Organization, 2014)....
