Vaccination in the urban sphere: the communicative role of the city in Spain and Latin America
Main Article Content
Abstract
Vaccination has become the great global challenge following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. What is more, its importance makes even more sense in a scenario of international relations in which large cities exert greater influence and have developed new models of governance in relation to states and other supranational entities. The participation of cities is developing along three axes: logistics, pharmacovigilance and communication. The action of communicating has become a fundamental pillar in the era of communication technologies and social networks. The cases of the main capitals in Latin America and Spain provide insight into why communication plays a fundamental role. Barcelona, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Madrid and Mexico offer communicative perspectives on vaccination management that demonstrate the connection of their procedures with their models of urban governance.
