Social networks and social comparison in teenagers from Mexico: implementation of an interdisciplinary model

Main Article Content

Abstract

Following the increase in the use and consumption of the internet and social networks that occurred after the COVID-19 pandemic, the population between 12 and 17 years of age positioned themselves as the second group of users on the web. There is a need to identify what repercussions this had on the comprehensive well-being of these young people, especially with regard to digital well-being, a term that has become popular in the last decade and related to the good use of technologies taking into account the physical and mental health. A survey was designed from the socio-educational profile of the subjects, the characterization of their use and consumption of social networks, in order to obtain a general overview. Using quantitative methodology, surveys were applied to 416 male and female students from public secondary schools in Sonora. The results indicate that there should be greater concern towards physical well-being than mental well-being, and highlight algorithm training as part of digital literacy in adolescents.
