Audiences and New Consumption of Journalistic Content in the Digital Age

Main Article Content

Abstract

This special issue features articles that reflect the consumption habits of new audiences accessing journalistic content, both through traditional media outlets and platforms that generate alternatives to conventional journalism. In this regard, it explores initiatives that share and assess content from journalistic brands on social media, search engines used for internet browsing and the tracking of information or opinion on current events, and news aggregators that curate journalistic content based on user profiles, among others. Through these inquiries, the aim is to generate knowledge about one of the dimensions most intensively transforming news media, the professional practice of journalism, and citizens as consumers of news and information. This special issue is linked to the central theme of the 30th International Congress of the Spanish Society of Journalism (SEP), held on 6–7 June 2024 at the Hospital de San Carlos building on the Aranjuez Campus.
