Science Communication and Dissemination in Brazil: A Usability Study of the MCTIC Portal
Main Article Content
Abstract
Scientific knowledge cannot fully benefit society if it remains confined to an exclusively academic environment—this is particularly crucial in developing countries such as Brazil. In this context, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications (MCTIC) is responsible for implementing and managing national programmes for the public dissemination of science. The MCTIC website is the primary tool for achieving these goals.
This study analyses the portal’s effectiveness as a tool for promoting and communicating scientific information to the public. Specifically, it focuses on evaluating the usability of the MCTIC portal. Usability is one of the most critical parameters in assessing the effectiveness and quality of a website, and it is essential for ensuring successful public access and engagement.
The findings suggest that while the digital platform offers new opportunities for making information available to citizens, significant shortcomings remain—particularly in terms of structure and usability—which hinder its full potential as a science communication tool.
