Ethical and Aesthetic Conjunctures in Contemporary Documentary Film. Testimonies on the war against drug trafficking in Mexico.
Main Article Content
Abstract
The representation of pain, violence and loss in the cinema of the real implies taking into consideration a series of ethical statutes that are often linked to aesthetic resources that allow for this care and positioning of the filmmaker in relation to his or her stories and the people who tell them. In Mexico, the war against drug trafficking has shaken the country and documentary film has had to give an account of it, but how does it do so? How does one narrate an uprising? How does one give a voice to a torturer? How does one show the invisible or speak of the unmentionable? How does one account for the aesthetics of the sinister? This text aims to answer these questions by analysing two contemporary Mexican documentaries: Geografía del dolor (2012) by Mónica González and La libertad del diablo (2017) by Everardo González.
