Análisis de variables psicosociales en personas transgénero en etapa previa a hormonación

The word transgender is used to designate those people who do not have a gender identity that coincides with their sex assigned at birth. It is currently under discussion whether these people have more mental health problems.
Objective: To study mental health and social support in transgender people in the stage prior to hormone therapy.
Method: 76 participants who started a process of sex change were included. Stress, social support, self-esteem (Rosenberg scale), depression (BDI), and personality (MCMI-IV) were assessed.
Results: Moderate depression scores in 10.5% and severe depression in 3.9%. Without serious personality alterations in 85.5%. A significant relationship was found between mood and self-esteem.
Conclusions: According to the sample studied, people with gender dysphoria are not characterized by psychopathological alterations.
