Introduction. In this paper we present an approach to the phenomenon of traumatic amputation from a qualitative perspective and humanist, combining methodologies such as ethnography and combining them with the clinical psychology practice. Objectives. We propose to describe the suffering and coping strategies of amputees and to analyze the appearance of the concept of resilience in the speeches of the amputees and explain the importance of psychological support at various phases. Methodology. Qualitative ethnographic study. The main unit of analysis is lower limb amputees living in the Region of Murcia (Spain) and data were collected through semi-structured interview techniques such as the biographical method and participant observation. Results and discussion. It describes the main results of the study divided into experiences of suffering, coping strategies and psychotherapeutic applications. Conclusions. The amputees suffering is defined very different ways. Coping strategy determines that there is a more or less suffering before the amputation. Resilience can face and overcome the problems of amputees, and psychotherapy prevents and treats the aspects that influence the adaptation of the amputee.Downloads
