Abstract

(Essere) fiume

is an artistic piece created and exhibited as part of the International Exhibition Ecos y Resonancias de la Tierra, located at the Carmen Jiménez Center in La Zubia, Granada, Spain, as part of the 1st FANZ Art and Nature Festival, held throughout the month of February 2025. Through the exploration of the confluence between the profound interpretation of Greek mimesis proposed by Giusseppe Penone in his series Essere fiume (1947-1981), in which art becomes a mirror of the cycles of transformation of nature and the artist who produces them, the piece presented derives from the Italian sculptor’s ideology and is based on the immateriality of reflection to not only reconstruct but also activate the topographical memory of the landscape. Thus, it evokes elements lost or transformed over time, thereby emphasizing that the environment in which art occurs is not a passive setting, but rather an element, an active protagonist that records, preserves, and (re)constructs its own narrative.
