De los blancos-matices; construir ‘catedrales’ para crear ‘monstruos’

Abstract

The visual essay presents selected contributions belonging to two series of graphic and sculptural material. The textual reflection corresponds to a starting point or spur for the artistic-plastic creation shown through photographic reproductions. It is about putting into value the materiality of the pieces (sculptures) and drawings whose objective is presenting two sets that emerged at temporally correlative, but sometimes overlapping, moments. The series: “City-Plant/Plan-(of)-City; Cathedrals and Monsters”, followed by the series: “Untitled (Gadgets-Mechanisms)”, show a differentiated plastic formalization. The interferences of the material plane with space and time also constitute disruptions and ruptures that intertwine the material making with the idea of landscape and its gradual transformation, significantly embodied in buildings and singular elements of the city in the occurrence of ruined devices-mechanisms in the factory-architectural cemeteries. From there, the graphic-sculptural materialization is supported by cartographic surveys; maps and plans whose representational convention close to the abstract of the territory and landscape —”City-Plant” versus “Plant-(of)-City”— functions as raw material in the approach to the solid-tangible in terms of the sculptural technique put into practice within its procedural processes and uses.
