SDG 7 in Teacher Training: Level of Knowledge and Proposals for its Educational Integration

Abstract

Nowadays, one of the major global challenges is to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy, as set out in “Sustainable Development Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”. In light of this urgent need, it is essential to promote awareness and understanding of energy sustainability, particularly in the educational field and teacher training.

This project aims to analyse the level of knowledge of students enrolled in the Master's Degree in Teacher Training, as well as secondary school teachers, regarding the Sustainable Development Goals in general, and SDG 7 in particular. To this end, a structured questionnaire was created and distributed via Google Forms to both groups, combining general questions about the SDGs with specific ones related to SDG 7, along with sociodemographic items, reaching a total of 53 participants.

The results show a generally solid understanding, although there are gaps in specific aspects and in the practical implementation of SDG 7 in the classroom. Based on these findings, a set of educational activities is proposed, aimed at both master's students and secondary school pupils, with the goal of supporting the curricular integration of SDG 7 and fostering an education committed to energy transition and sustainable development.
