Abstract
The Honduran coastline, with its rich marine biodiversity and position as part of the Mesoamerican Reef, faces serious threats from climate change, pollution, and unsustainable economic activities. This paper examines Honduras’ protected areas, wetlands, and coastal-marine ecosystems, highlighting their environmental importance and critical conservation challenges. It addresses the impacts of illegal fishing, coral bleaching, and poor solid waste management, proposing integrated policies and strategies to mitigate these issues. Community participation, along with effective environmental governance, is essential to protect these vulnerable ecosystems and ensure their long-term sustainability.
